The ruling Prosperity Party led by Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed won a majority with 438 seats in the 547 member House of People’s Representatives and will form the new government.
The country has a bicameral Federal Parliamentary Assembly comprising the upper House of Federation and the lower House of People’s Representatives. Members in both houses serve five-year terms.
Ethiopia has a population of around 138 million and 50 million registered voters. In the 2026 general election, voter turnout was 89%.
