On 29 September, King Mohammed VI appointed Fatima Ezzahra El Mansouri as Prime Minister after her party, the Authenticity and Modernity Party, won the most seats in the lower House of Representatives.
Morocco has a bicameral legislature with the upper House of Councillors, which has 120 members serving six-year terms, and the House of Representatives, which has 395 members serving five-year terms and are elected by proportional representation.
Morocco is a constitutional monarchy. Under the country’s constitution, the king appoints the head of government from the political party that wins the largest number of seats in the House of Representatives.
Morocco has a population of around 39 million and 16 million registered voters. In the election, voter turnout was 38%.
