The opposition bloc led by Magdalena Andersson of the Social Democrats won the election with 176 seats in parliament.
Incumbent Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson of the Moderate Party has resigned, clearing the way for Andersson to try to form a coalition government.
Sweden’s unicameral parliament is called the Riksdag and has 349 members, who are elected by proportional representation. Members serve four-year terms.
Sweden has a population of around 11 million and 8 million registered voters. In the 2026 election, voter turnout was 84.9%.
