On November 3, 2026, voters will elect all 435 members of the U.S. House of Representatives and 35 members of the U.S. Senate, including two special elections. With narrow majorities in both chambers, a relatively small number of competitive races could determine the balance of power in Washington and have significant implications for healthcare, financial services, energy, technology, trade, national security, and other sectors.
Following the election, Congress will return for a lame-duck session during November and December 2026 to complete work on pending legislation and close out the 119th Congress before the new Congress is sworn in on January 3, 2027.
